How I made this in Photoshop:
After making the background black, I made a very skinny rectangle and colored it blue to make a line. I then added my name and graphic designer in with a lighter blue. Using the rectangular marquee tool, I made a rectangle and filled it with the same color as my text. I then warped the rectangle to make the curved effect. Next, I added a dark blue and light blue gradient to the curve. Next, I added the same elements to the back of the business card, keeping all text in the lighter blue and graphic design. I added icons for phone, mail, and email to go along with my contact information. I then added a butterfly and the same gradient I used for the rectangle on the front of the card.
Design Thoughts:
I've always loved the contrast of black and a light blue. I think that the color black adds a little mystery while the blue adds peace and calmness, which ties the card together. I used Script MT Bold for my name to bring some attention to it and the rest of the text in Franklin Gothic Medium Cond font. I added the butterfly because I think that they are fun and add to the serenity of the blue color. The butterfly is facing my contact information, especially my email and draws attention to it. I added the gradient to add some texture and to better unify the card with repeating colors. I also wanted to have the information and the butterfly that is on the back to be aligned with the curve on the front to further unify the card and added to the continuity.
  • Contrast: Light and dark blue on black background. Different fonts.
  • Repetition: Fonts and colors. The line above Graphic Designer. Gradients.
  • Proximity: Graphic Designer is by my name to make it clear it's talking about me.
  • Alignment: Right aligned on front. Left aligned on back. The butterfly is in about the same position as the curve on the front and so is the text.
