Exhibit 3-USU Stars Digital Display

How I made this in Photoshop:
I used the quick selection tool to remove the dice from the sky image and used the healing brush to remove any of the remnants of the dice. I also used the quick selectin tool to select the graduation cap and gear to place on the display. I flipped some of the graduaton caps using free transform.
Design Thoughts:
I wanted the students to know that excellence is within their reach, so I created this design while keeping that in mind. I chose a sky image because at the end of graduation, the students will toss their graduation caps. I used a big decorative font for excellence to really make it stand out.
  • Contrast: dark blue on light blue and white background. Red and blue text. Black graduation caps on light background.
  • Repetition: Graduation caps throughout the display.
  • Proximity: is in your reach is by excellence to make the message clear.
  • Alignment: The right edge of Excellence, reach, and Neal is aligned. The graduation caps are all aligned with each other.
How I made this in Photoshop:
I used the quick selection tool to select everyone but the girl. I then used a hue/saturation layer to turn everyone to black and white but the girl. I used the brush tool to remove the white circles from the gear and added stars using the custom shape tool.
Design Thoughts:
At that age, I was afraid to stand out, and that held me back many times. I wanted students to know that it is okay to be different and to stand out.
  • Contrast: colored girl in the middle of black and white people. Black and white people on dark background. Black, white, and pink text on dark blue background. Slab serif, script, and sans serif fonts.
  • Repetition: pink text and pink outfit on the girl. Black gear and black and white people.
  • Proximity: don't be afraid to stand out is by the girl who is standing out from the rest.
  • Alignment: my name and gear up are aligned. The kids are aligned with each other.
